2010 seems to be off to a good start (1/5/2010)

Thank you, thank you, and thank YOU!

I bought a fine piece of software last week, when my drive crashed, called Recover My Files. RMF's recovery results pointed to what the problem actually was - a deleted partition. It was good to get the critical data off first, then work on fixing the problem. My system is now up and running 100%, with zero files lost, and I found out what happened. This is for your knowledge base:

My external drive is a Toshiba 1TB PH3100U-1EXB external: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149097 and it's running via a Rosewill RC-210 controller. To restore from a disk with a drive image, to the C drive, using Norton Ghost 10, it has to boot and run from CD. Of course, Ghost 10 doesn't have the driver for the Rosewill eSATA card through which it was accessing the Toshiba PH3100U with the drive image, so it crashed. Incidentally, I never tested this scenario. My bad. How it saw the drive in the first place I have no idea, but unfortunately it did, and in less that 1/4 of the way into imaging, upon completing verification of the image and beginning the restore, it crashed, damaging the Toshiba drive's boot sector info. This was relatively minor, and EASEUS Partition Recovery for Windows fixed it in less than a second. You guys are good.

I'm very happy to keep both RMF and EASUS PR in my utilities folder. Thankyou, and have a great year!
