Create Partition

The "Create partition" operation allows you to create primary, extended, and logical partitions. On one single hard disk, you may have up to four primary partitions or you may have three primary and one extended partitions. In an extended partition, you can unlimitedly create additional subdivisions called logical partitions. Creating a new partition can have your drive letters changed, causing applications not to run because application shortcuts, initialization files, and registry entries have pointed to incorrect drives.

Create Partition

After creating partition, you may find that there is not enough free space on system partition to install new software or the system is running slowly because of the inefficient free space on the disk. So, resizing a partition is need. However, Super Fdisk can not solve the problem. To solve it, EaseUS Partition Manger has developed the function of resizing/moving partition. It allows you freely resize a partition in Windows System without destroying data.

Our free partition manager - EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition is for home users to create their partitions in Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7 (32 bit - 64 bit). If you want to create your partition in Windows 2000 Professional and Server, Windows Server 2003/ 2008/XP/Vista/Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit), we strongly recommend you the EaseUS Partition Master Server Edition.

Warning: Super Fdisk cannot recover partition table or fix partition error. You can use Partition Table Doctor to recover partition table or fix partition error.

If you want to recover files due to deletion, format, partition lost or damage, system crash, etc. especially under. Windows Vista/2008/Windows 7, our professional data recovery software - Data Recovery Wizard is recommended. It works well with hardware RAID and hard drives, SD and Memory Cards, etc.

STEPS TO CREATE A PARTITION

If you have multiple hard disks and partitions, the process and available options may differ slightly from the following steps.

To create a partition:

1. From the Harddisks drop-down list, select the disk where you want to create the new partition.

2. On the disk map, select a block of free space. If there is no free space, you need resize or delete an existing partition to create free space.

3. Click PARTITION > CREATE on the menu bar. The CREATE PARTITION dialog will appear.

4. In the Type box, click LOGICAL PARTITION or PRIMARY PARTITION. If you select LOGICAL PARTITION, Super Fdisk will automatically create an extended partition to enclose the logical partition, or, if you already have an extended partition, enlarge the size of the extended partition to encompass the logical partition (the free space must be inside of or adjacent to the extended partition). If LOGICAL PARTITION is unavailable, it may turn out to be that you already have four primary partitions on the hard disk. Or, if you have had an extended partition, you can not have selected a block of free space inside of or adjacent to the extended partition.

5. On the System drop-down list, select the desired file system type:
- FAT is the most common file system type. It is used by DOS and Windows of all versions.
- FAT32 is used by Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2, Windows 98/Me, and Windows 2000/XP.
- EXTEND creates an extended partition which can contain any number of logical partitions. EXTEND is not an option if the hard disk already contains an extended partition or four primary partitions.
- UNFORMATTED creates unformatted free space on your hard drive.

6. If you need, enter a label (the length can be up to 11 alphanumeric characters) for the new partition. Descriptive labels help remind you what stored in a partition (for example, DATA, APPS, WIN95, etc.) is. If you choose EXTEND or UNFORMATTED on the System drop-down list, label will be of no effect.

7. In the SIZE box, enter the desired size for the partition. Super Fdisk will automatically calculate a recommended size (based on the most efficient use of disk space), which you can accept or change.

8. Click OK.

NOTES: If you are running Windows NT/2000/XP, type or select the drive letter you want to assign to the partition in the DRIVE LETTER box. An exception is that Windows NT/2000/XP can handle the multiple primary active partitions.

When the computer restarts, the operating system will assign the new partition a drive letter.
